Large Turnout Expected for Race Day
With only 10 days to go before A Flaughless 5K makes its debut, the community of Vinton and throughout Iowa have already embraced this event with a great deal of support. Thanks to more than 80 sponsors and more than 300 registrations, A Flaughless 5K has already raised more than $3,000 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
VS FFA invites community to tailgate party Friday before football
The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter, along with the Benton County Farm Bureau Federation, will be teaming up on Friday October 19, 2012 for a Tailgate Party! It will be held at north end of the high school parking lot beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking football team will host the Crestwood Cadets on Karr Field later that evening.
Christmas is coming...already???
I typically have a rule that I don't promote Christmas activites in full force until after Thanksgiving has run it's course, however, I'm going to make an exception for a couple of very special events coming up faster than it seems. Check out the information below and please, feel free to take part in whatever way you choose! Like it or not, Christmas is coming up quickly and we have a lot to do before it gets here. PEO Chapter MZ will meet at 1:30 PM. on Monday, Oct. 22, at the home of Dona Merchant assisted by Frieda Davis. The program will be presented by Becky Primus.
VPRD announces new fitness programs
The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department would like to announce some upcoming fitness programs that may pique your interest. VPRD will host a fall session of Aqua Aerobics at the Braille School indoor pool beginning on October 21st. This four-week class will meet Sunday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 PM. The dates of this class are October 21, 24, 28 and November 4, 7, 11, 14, 18.

The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. C4entral Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met at the home of Luanna Hawkins for our Sept. meeting. The program was given by Kristi Shultis on “The usefulness of Herbs.”
At 2pm the President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order.

Shellburg Presbyterian Church located at 300 Main St. SE, Shellsburg will hold our soup supper on November 11th from 4:30-7:00PM.

VINTON PIZZA HUT ASKS YOU TO HELP US 'STOMP OUT WORLD HUNGER 2012
Vinton Pizza Hut will be hosting a 5K trail run November 3rd, 2012 to raise money to help fight World of Hunger 2012. It will be held at Rodgers Park in Benton County. More information can be found here or stop out to Vinton Pizza Hut and ask for more information.
